Veteran-owned Lehigh Valley headshot photographer behind the camera at The Confident Lens studio, helping clients feel comfortable and confi

You may know me as M5 Photography—but I’ve recently rebranded as The Confident Lens. The name may be new, but the heart of what I do hasn’t changed: helping professionals in the Lehigh Valley look and feel confident through authentic headshots and branding photography.

When people visit my studio or meet me for a headshot session, one of the first questions I get asked is: So, how did you get into photography?

The short answer: it started as a way to process my own story,  my emotions and a way to deal with the memories that I'd rather not have.

The long answer? That’s where The Confident Lens really begins.

From the Marine Corps to the Camera

Before I ever picked up a camera, I was serving in the United States Marine Corps. I completed two tours in Afghanistan, and like so many veterans, I came home carrying experiences and emotions that were hard to put into words. Photography became my outlet—a way to reconnect with the world around me, slow down, and see details I’d overlooked before.

At first, I shot landscapes. Mountains, skies, roads, and fields—it was therapy for me. The quiet of the camera replaced the chaos of deployment. But over time, I realized that what drew me most wasn’t just scenes of nature. It was people.

Discovering the Power of Portraits

When I started photographing people, something clicked. There’s a moment that happens when someone stands in front of a camera and sees themselves in a way they haven’t before. Maybe it’s confidence, maybe it’s a softness, maybe it’s just authenticity—but whatever it is, it matters.

I realized I wasn’t just taking pictures; I was helping people see themselves as others see them. For a job interview, for a website, for LinkedIn, or just for themselves. And that was powerful.

That’s when my photography business really started taking shape.

Why Headshots?

Living and working in the Lehigh Valley, I quickly noticed something: professionals here—whether realtors, business owners, lawyers, or students—needed great headshots, but often dreaded the process.

Headshots had a reputation for being stiff, awkward, or “corporate-looking.” But what if they didn’t have to be?

I wanted to create an experience where:

  • You felt comfortable and confident.
  • You laughed, relaxed, and forgot about the camera.
  • You walked away with headshots that actually looked and felt like you.

That became my mission: to provide professional headshots in the Lehigh Valley that are authentic, approachable, and polished.

Building The Confident Lens

When I started, my “studio” was my garage. No fancy building, no big team—just me, my camera, and a lot of passion. It still is in my garage. But what mattered most wasn’t the space. It was and is the trust I built with each client who walked in.

Today, The Confident Lens specializes in:

  • Individual Headshots – perfect for job seekers, LinkedIn, small business owners, real estate agents, attorneys, or anyone who wants to show up strong online.
  • Corporate/Team Headshots – I bring the studio to your office, so your whole team gets consistent, professional images without the hassle of leaving work.
  • Branding Photography & Event Headshot Stations – for entrepreneurs and businesses who want to elevate their presence.

No matter the session, my goal is the same: to make the process relaxed, collaborative, and genuinely fun.

More Than Just a Picture

To me, photography isn’t just about lighting, lenses, or editing. It’s about connection. Every person has a story, and I consider it an honor to capture a piece of that story in a single frame.

Headshots might seem small compared to a wedding or a family event, but think about it: your headshot is often the first impression someone has of you. It’s on your LinkedIn, your company website, your business cards. It tells the world who you are before you even say a word.

So yes, it matters. And it deserves to be done right.

Why I Keep Going

The Confident Lens isn’t just a business for me—it’s a calling. It combines my background, my values, and my belief that every person deserves to feel seen, to feel confident

From Marines in Afghanistan to professionals in the Lehigh Valley, the journey has been unexpected but meaningful. Every session reminds me why I started: because photography has the power to heal, connect, and reveal something real.

Side Note:

As a Marine Corps veteran, I understand the value of community and support—especially when it comes to building confidence in new environments. That’s why I’m proud to be partner and help (when I can)  of the Lehigh Valley’s network of veteran-friendly businesses and organizations, including groups like Battle Borne, which work tirelessly to connect and empower local veterans on their paths forward. If you can support them, please do. They do amazing work.
